Piñatas

Art Club Artists worked on Piñatas through the month of May. They covered balloons in paper maché and decorated them with tissue paper. It was messy, but really fun! 

We had a wonderful spring Art Club! Thanks for all of the students who participated! 

Origami

We had a fun tim exploring the art of ORIGAMI! 

4th & 5th grade students watched tutorials and explored making their own origami designs. Most of them were intrigued by making "ninja stars". 

2nd & 3rd grade classes (and team Treasure 1st graders too)  made an outer space picture with an origami space ship! 

We watched the tutorial together, moving through the process step by step. 

Then the student artists got to get really creative when designing their outer space. 

Sun Catching Kites!

What a messy fun art project this was for our younger artists! 

They first created the stained glass look on their kite by painting a gluey-water mixture onto tissue paper. After the frame of their kite was complete, they cut out kite tail bows and we assembled them together!

Perspective

Students artists in 2nd-5th grade talked about perspective in art. We talked about how the curves or size of lines can make things look a different shape or size!

The 4th and 5th graders made these 3-D looking tunnel pictures. 

 2nd and 3rd graders made landscapes with a road or path leading to different building structures in the distance. All of these projects turned out very different from one another, but the concept of perspective was evident in them all! 

Leaf Plate Rubbings

This 4th/5th grade class spent a little extra time in the fresh air making pictures of leaf rubbings. Right away they all start discussing the leaves and what they know about identifying different trees from their leaves. 

If only we could take art to the woods! If you can, see if your family can make some time for art in the woods. You just need a paper and a peeled crayon to make a beautiful picture of real leaf rubbings! 

Fork Tulips!

Using forks to paint, kindergarten and first grade students made beautiful pieces of spring art! 

It was fun to see how many students were naturally drawn to creating a pattern with the colors they chose. 

Adding the stems and leaves. Students used their fingers, paint, ink, a fork or a paint brush to finish their flowers.

 Some students even added some fork detail in the grass. 

Aurora Lights

Student artists in 4th & 5th grade learned about the Aurora lights. We often here these called "Northern Lights" but we learned that this beautiful light show occurs over both the North and South poles. If you want to see the video we watched about the Aurora lights, you can view it here.

First we got to work making our black papers bright with streaks of light using chalk. This chalk is much messier than sidewalk or chalk board chalk. Most students really liked getting their hands dirty with chalk. 

Using a dark acrylic paint, we added a silhouette of trees in front of the Aurora lights. 

Sphero Painting

Mr. Kelly taught us how to control the Sphero robots and we got to steer them through paint to create a colorful poster! 

Have you ever made marble paintings? This is kind of like that!

Famous Artist Unit: Picasso

Second and third grade student artists returned to Pablo Picasso's work by looking at his famous paintings of faces made using a style called CUBISM. Here are a few example of cubism by Picasso:
